After quite some time at the Colosseum we made our way to the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill.
The combo ticket is such a good deal! Seriously, €12 for all of this? SO worth it!
We didn’t take a tour during any of this trip but I think it would have been nice to have one here. I overheard one tour guide saying that the column in the square of Santa Maria Maggiore (downstairs from our room) was actually taken from the Basilica of Maxentius.
Imagine how this place was when these buildings were first constructed!
Also on this day our plan was to take a bus to the Appian Way. That was the plan…life doesn’t always go according to plan, especially when you’re relying on Italian buses. We waited, I don’t even know how long, an hour? Two hours? Sitting on the curb like complete tourists. The bus never came, or we missed it, or I had bad info. I don’t know! Eventually we got on a bus, talked to some locals who said we were on the wrong bus, got off the bus, and walked around confused.
But it’s ok!! We still had a nice time walking back to our hotel and then going out for our anniversary dinner.
For dinner we made our way back to Trastevere – because it’s perfect there! We went to the Spanish Steps that night (no pictures, I was tired and had sore feet and I’m sorry) then back to our hotel to prepare for Pompeii the next day.
